It’s never too late to start

The moment has arrived to bid farewell to 2010 and welcome in 2011…but where has the year gone? It seemed like yesterday that Siscu, Sheela, Vito, Oz, Little Mar, Jordi, Estefi and Carmen and I were all in Belsierre welcoming in 2010. The year has flown by – as happens when you give your all every day, and each day is full of projects, tenderness and kilometres.

Many, when reaching year’s end, look back and want to leaver the old year so as to have a sort of “second chance”, turning over a new page in their lives. I’m delighted that this isn’t the case with me. I’m extremely pleased with this past year. It hasn’t been an easy year – but life itself isn’t easy. I’ve managed to achieve my challenges, to laugh, to cry, to struggle and to celebrate everything with Siscu. In terms of kilometrating, it’s been an incredible year – tough but precious.

The Ultra Pyrene was a test for the whole team, not just for me (obviously my test had the addition of some 84 kms extra each day, with awful height differences). But we all returned still caring about each other, and tonight we’ll all be here in Can Kilometrar to embrace the New Year, and each other.

To be able to say goodbye to this year surrounded by the same souls (+nuna) is a precious gift. We’re all different and we all live in different parts of the country. But the distance that separates us doesn’t separate our hearts or our souls. Today this distance is shrinking – Carmen is already in Lleida_ and this evening she’ll be driving down here with Estefi and the “Puppy” (Arnau), the Beetle filled with Joy and delicious food. This morning Oz and Jordi are due to arrive for a long run, perfect for beginning the celebrations. All the rest will arrive later, apart from V who arrives tomorrow.

At 11:30 pm we’ll all set off with our headlamps and our 12 grapes (Spanish New Year’s tradition) to welcome in the New Year kilometrating – the perfect way for a family like ours!

On the menu we have positive energy, eagerness, love, tenderness, warmth, health, abundance and of course, what cannot be absent from any menu – great joy. For my part, I’m ready to throw myself wholeheartedly into 2011, giving all I have to continue living each day with excellence – that’s to say, to reach my full potential each day, regardless if it’s an “important” day or not. Each day is important, each moment of each day too. Only by giving the best of ourselves can we manage to make the ordinary EXTRA-ordinary.

It’s never too late to start.

Happy New Year, happy kms, great joy for all and…¡Kilometrate!

Despite the Distance

Tranquil days, full of warmth and joy, love and tenderness – what more can I have asked for? Nothing. This is what Siscu and I have had this Chrismas. Our fiend Mare, after 2 attempts, was finally unable to leave Ireland to spend Christmas with us, due to the awful weather there. So Siscu and I spent Christams with Sheela and Vito. Though we were sad that we didn’t have Mare’s company, we didn’t let it spoil the days – we had a lovely time.

Oz and Jordi arrived on Christmas Eve morning to run with us. All 4 of us enjoyed the day itself, our friendship and even the freezing rain that soaked us. The visit was our first present this Christmas.

Things never go exactly according to plan, but the important thing is to be able to know how to live all that is given to us, and to adapt ourselves to the changes when there are no solutions. Christmas for me is all about love, peace, joy, compassion, generosity, friendship and family. At times you can celebrate this with your loved ones, and at other times separately. But though the kilometres may separate us, pure hearts unite us, despite the distance. Emotions don’t need to change with distance – friendship or love can be celebrated regardless.

I have spent the days kilometrating with Siscu by my side, walking with the dogs, in the mountains, and celebrating all I have.  These simple days, tranquil and full of warmth have left me fuller even that all the lovely vegetarian Christmas food!

¡Kilometrate!
