One Peak More

Yesterday’s training up the mountain – our grain of sand towards the V-Day campaign – was as almost always, a great adventure. The fact that Frank and I have been fasting for the last few days made it all the more difficult – for him more so as he hasn’t run that distance in nearly three years…not to mention the amout of ascent we had to run! But the luxury of running up a mountain with our friends was enough – we all managed to thoroughly enjoy it despite, the tiredness, lack of energy and the bitter cold.

I spent the ascent regretting bitterly suggesting this run, but from the peak back down it was brilliant fun.

One day more of adventure, friendship, chatting, and laughter with just the right amount of suffering to make us struggle and give our best effort…

One Billion Rising- Strike, Dance, Rise or Run!

Today is Valentine’s day – the day to celebrate love (though I believe it’s better to not save the celebration for just one day, but rather celebrate all 365 days of the year!). Today though is also V-Day – below is the explanation. Today is the day to rise…

About One Billion Rising

On V-Day’s 15th Anniversary, 14 February 2013, we are inviting ONE BILLION women and those who love them to WALK OUT, DANCE, RISE UP, and DEMAND an end to this violence. ONE BILLION RISING will move the earth, activating women and men across every country. V-Day wants the world to see our collective strength, our numbers, our solidarity across borders.

What does ONE BILLION look like? On 14 February 2013, it will look like a REVOLUTION.

A global strike
An invitation to dance
A call to men and women to refuse to participate in the status quo until rape and rape culture ends
An act of solidarity, demonstrating to women the commonality of their struggles and their power in numbers
A refusal to accept violence against women and girls as a given
A new time and a new way of being

For those of you waiting for news of last week’s 84 km run, here goes… Oz, Jordi and I set off at 3 am and struggled through our tiredness till dawn.

With the light of the day came relief, and we continued on our way happier and lighter, stopping off when the mountain trails passed through villages, to refill water and have coffee breaks.

All was going smoothly until a little after halfway, I realized that we were totally lost. We discovered later that the landowners in that area had removed the way markers. Instead of heading over to Vic we found ourselves rising, rising and rising more, closing in on Les Agudes and Turo de L´home peaks – totally out of or planned way! But regardless we diced to keep on, and simply change our plans. Despite the positive kms – nearly 1000m more that the planned 2000m – the freezing temperatures and the gale force winds, we had a great time.

We called Frank to tell him that instead of driving all the way to Vic, he needed to just head out towards Santa Fe, rescue us, and take us down to our village for cake and hot chocolate. Great training, great adventure and great fun – today more!

Be Excellent!

And just for fun…set off at 3am for an 8o something km trot

This morning Siscu and I went for a very short 8 km run – sun, cold and happiness! We ran so few because tonight, Oz Jordi and myself are setting out for a very long 80 something km run – darkness, cold and happiness! Uph!… the truth is that I am really not looking forward to this run right now, apart from the pleasure of sharing another adventures with our friends, but since the boys want to do a long training, and as I’m in such good shape after Almería, well I said yes. We’re going to be running very slowly, and walking on the uphills, so it wont be nearly as tough as the Almería challenge. It will be long – some 14 – 16 hours of running, and that’s assuming we don’t get lost, as the trail is new for us…
It promises though, to be a great adventure – a new route all the way to Vic – and I know altho as soon as we’ve set off with our headlamps on and our packs full of water and sandwiches, I’ll be excited and will thoroughly enjoy the experience. But right now, seated in my office – uphhhhhhh!
Vito and Sheela are calling to me now, to accompany them on their walk along with Visi sand Santi our neighbors, after which it’s time to prepare dinner as Oz and Jordi will be coming round to be fed and will sleep a few hours before our alarm goes off at 2am…
Be Excellent!
